Reverend Joseph L Woods, Sr.

REVEREND JOSEPH L. WOODS, SR.
Reverend Woods was born and raised in Kimball, West Virginia. After completing high school in 1954, he moved to Columbus, Ohio. He joined Pilgrim Baptist Church under Pastor M.J. Mitchell. He acknowledged his calling from God to the ministry in January 1982; preached his trial sermon on February 7, 1982; received his license on April 11, 1983 and was ordained on December 28, 1985. He served as assistant to Pastor M.J. Mitchell until receiving his pastoral calling to the First Baptist Church of Rendville, Ohio on January 26, 1986.

Reverend Woods is a former member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Kimball, West Virginia; former member of Providence Regular Missionary Baptist Association, holding offices as second vice moderator, president, vice president and treasurer of the Ministers/Deacon Institute. Reverend Woods received an award for dedicated services rendered at the Providence Association. He is a member of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, Inc., National Chaplain of Kimball High School National Alumni Association (for 22 years) from 1994 – 2016. Reverend Woods received the “Golden K” award at the 25th annual Kimball reunion, Boston, MA, 1996. He was also awarded for dedicated services rendered at First Baptist Church of Rendville, Ohio for some 13 years. Reverend Woods received the distinguished award from the Kimball Alumni in Detroit, MI in 1998. He attended the Eastern Union Bible College in Columbus, Ohio and is a former pastor of Philadelphia Baptist Church of Love and Faith. Reverend Woods attended East Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and after five years under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Joseph Freeman, became assistant superintendent and superintendent of the Sunday School, and taught the new members class. He received his pastoral calling to the Forest Run Baptist Church of Pomeroy, Ohio on September 10, 2006 until 2016.

Reverend Woods is a former member of Pride O Hilltop Lodge No. 110 F & AM; RAM of Johnson Chapter No. 2; LD Eastern Consistory, No. 21; Alla Baba Temple No. 53, all of Columbus, Ohio. He retired after 20 years of service at State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio as Manager, mail/supply center, Administrative Services department, and is a former member of the Board of Directors, Central Ohio Postal Customer Council.

Reverend Woods is the younger son of the late Clay and Sadie Woods, Sr. He has been married to the former Mary Louise Jackson of Columbus, Ohio for 62 years. Father of Debra (Earl) Profitt, Stroudsburg, PA; Kevin (Robin) Woods, Moreno Valley, CA; Joseph Woods, Jr. (deceased); Clinton (Patricia) Woods, Pflugerville, TX; Steven Woods (deceased); Marvin (Sherry) Woods, San Diego, CA; and Jeffrey Woods, Columbus, Ohio. Reverend Woods is the grandfather of seven grandsons, seven granddaughters and of eight great-grandchildren.
