The 155th Annual Emancipation Celebration will be held at the Gallia County Junior Fairgrounds located at 189 Jackson Pike, Gallipolis, Ohio on Saturday, September 22th & Sunday, September 23th, 2018. The planned event promises excitement and entertainment for all age groups.

The Gallia County Emancipation Celebration Committee is pleased to announce our Sunday, September 23rd Keynote Speaker is Dr. Anthony L. Jenkins, President of West Virginia State University in Institute, WV. This will be on the main stage at 2:00 pm.

History will come alive with the Civil War Re-enactors from the 5th & 12th regiments of the U.S.C.T. who will be encamping at the fairgrounds. Frederick Douglas (portrayed by Michael Crutcher) & Abraham Lincoln (portrayed by Gerald Payn) will take the stage on the afternoon of Saturday, September 22nd

Music on Saturday will be rendered by the River Valley High School marching band and Civil War Musician Steve Ball. Lawrence R. Greene and Company will perform African Drum and Dance. Saturday events will also include a Kids Fun Day on the fairgrounds weather permitting.

Our own Andy Gilmore and Glenn Miller will Emcee Saturday and Sunday’s events. The Sunday sermon will be delivered by Reverend Joseph Woods, Associate Minister of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio. Music will be provided in the morning session by a Combined Churches Choir and in the afternoon session by Chelsea Price of Madison, WV. Sunday afternoon Keynote speaker will be

We are expecting dignitaries from our local, state and national offices. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend. Both days include food booths, arts & crafts, health fair, birthday chronicles, games for the youth and fun for all in attendance.
